Did you know that during March 2006 Victoria became a sister state with Scotland?  And that if you look at the names of most of the streets and suburbs, towns and places across Australia you find the Scots have had a strong influence on the development of Victoria, and indeed Australia.

Think about the names of places you might visit in Victoria

Glenbervie, Glen Waverley, Donald, Campbellfield, MacLeod, Heatherdale just to name of few.

Think of the other states in Australia:

Glen Innes, Armadale, Cawdor, Perth.  Now think about the people who helped in the settlement of Australia.  Governor MacQuarrie, Elizabeth MacArthur, the poet Banjo Patterson.   The development in the world of penicillin, pneumatic tyre,  television, rain coat, wellies.

these are just a few - what have they in common - their Scottish ancestry.

Why do pipers march while they a playing?

That's because a moving target is harder to hit!

Does the sound of bagpipes and drums stir you to stand with pride?

Then you are our kind 'a people.....

there are many like you and you can join in - don't just sit there join a scottish country dance group, a pipe band or recite Robert Burns poetry.  Tell your children about your heritage, get a family reunion started, just join in because it's fun to be scottish.

The Victorian Scottish Union acknowledge the very valuable assistance provided by the Victorian MultiCultural Commission and the EECV
